The Year of Living Biblically by A.J. Jacobs

I am reading this book - very interesting!! I got it from the library, so if you don't want to buy it, look at your library. "One Man's Humble Quest to Follow the Bible - as Literally as Possible-"

" 'Nor shall there come upon you a garment of cloth made of two kinds of stuff.' Leviticus 19:19

Day 5. I've made a list of the Top Five Most Perplexing Rules in the Bible. I plan to tackle all five this year, but I figured I'd start with one that requires neither violence nor pilgimages. Namely: the ban on wearing clothes made of mixed fibers. It's such an odd proscription, I figured there was zero chance that anyone else in America was trying to follow it.
Of course, I was wrong."

Just a small sample of the book...

I've always tought of that as teh no stripes with plaid law. But really, why? I'm sure it had meaning cultureally at teh time, but what purpose would it serve now?

Citizen - I do not think there is much in leviticus that is applicable to today! People that live in the laws of the old testament and leave the grace of Christ out of the picture are missing the whole point! Anyway, the book is very humorous, because it is ridiculous today to do most of these things...

I dont know...I kinda think it is helpful for people most of the old testament law.

For instance, not sleeping with close relatives and not humping goats and not murdering and stealing. Those seem like pretty good things to me.

"All Scripture is God-breathed, and is profitable for reproof, and correction, and instruction in righteousness"
I Tim 3:16??

OK, Friar, you make a very valid point - leave it to the pastor in the group to point out the obvious!! I will stop humping goats. :) seriously...I do know it all has a purpose, I just don't like it when people only look at the legalistic side and leave the grace out.
